Review of DC motors constructors

As you may know, we are working on new robotic actuators. Therefore we began to look at motor constructors to find the most suitable DC motor for our needs.

Any feedback from is very welcomed :slight_smile:

Maxon

Reference constructor, swiss quality but quite expensive, about 50-60€/unit yet the discount is strong for high volume (-50%).

Robodrive

Very interesting DC motors, specifically designed for robotic applications involving high toque density and small size :heart: :

Unfortunately they are very expensive: 520€/unit for the smaller one (ILM 25x04 rotor-stator-kit)

Espacially interesting for their Frameless High torque density serie:

Brushless Gimbal Motors

Brushless gimbal motors (designed for example for mounting and steadying video cameras) may be a good starting point. They are said to have smooth motion and are made for direct drive (no gearbox), so built for high torque, low speed. Combined with a planetary gearbox, magnetic angle sensor, and motor controller might make a good robot servo. Torque specs are hard to come by.

Here are some from €11 to €88: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__961__960__Multi_Rotors_Parts-Gimbal_Motors.html.

DSD motor (cheap)

@Matthieu
Did you really choose any motor out of these?
I found following link may be helpful to decide.
